YASS (Hugo Yass his stage name or Yas KAWAMURA) is a crooner with a silky and whispery voice. He comes from Kyoto, Japan.
YASS accompanies himself with an acoustic guitar and often performs in cafes or nightclubs (up to 5 nights a week between 2007 and 2011) in Japan, in the crooner style (his specialty) based on bossa nova music. He finds this style effective and believes it matches well with the rhythm and tone of his voice, for the best atmosphere.
In 1995, he had his first concert in Esperanto during the summer course of SFŜU.
In 2005, he presented Esperanto bossa nova accompanied by the ukulele at the artistic evening of the UK (World Esperanto Congress) de Vilnius in Lithuania.
In 2018, he performed a song at the KK (Komuna Konferenco) of IKEF.
Finally, in 2023, YASS recorded and released his first Esperanto album in digital format, with a content of 10 songs (old and new) originally written in Esperanto and in his favorite bossa nova music style.
