Release of the album CD on 15 juny 2016
For this new album, jOmO invited the musicians of the group Brankabodegaires (bodegistoj in Esperanto, pipers in English) in the (now legendary) Studio de la Trappe. He plays with this group in the streets in the various carnivals, festivals, and parades in South-Western France. Their repertory is very festive, joyous, and toe-tapping, and takes its roots in traditional Occitanian songs.
The main instrument of the band is definitely the "bodega", the goat-skin bagpipe, and because of that we also name it with the Occitanian word "la craba" ( "goat" in Occitanian, pronounced [krabo]). Almost disappearing after the First World War, it was reborn in the 1970s thanks to a number of fans.
The album’s texts presents various aspects of Occitanian culture, from social struggles to the passion for rugby, passing through the traditions of wine and carnivals, and the struggle for the language’s survival.
jOmO had the opportunity to present his work in the World Esperanto Congress in Lille, France, in July 2015. The emergence of this new album is consistent with the imminent publication of a textbook of the Occitanian language in Esperanto, that jOmO wrote. That’s two good ways to get to know the Occitanian culture!
