The Dutch-Frisian group Kapriol’! presented its first CD “Aventur’” for KEF in Denmark in 2009. Here is their new CD “Kavaliriko” which presents swinging music that is both traditional and original.
The musical base in this album is traditional, sometimes even originating from centuries-old Dutch and Frisian music. But as their name indicates (“kapriolo” means “gambol”), they enjoy musical gamboling, making free arrangements based on this traditional music.
They also like to make connections between the past and present through the use of various influences from other musical styles. This can include olden styles such as medieval music when knighthood was in flower, or traditional Spanish, Celtic, and Balkan styles, but also more recent styles such as jazz and salsa. The strength of multi-voice singing and inhabitual instruments is remarkable.
Their repertory contains not only music and songs to listen to, but also dance melodies from their program of bal folk dancing: scottishes, bourrées, Circassian circles, and gigues.
Between their first and second albums, Kapriol’! has not only played in the Netherlands, but also often in concerts and festivals abroad.
The group performed in 2009 at the Circle d’Arrels in Barcelona, at KEF in Denmark, and at FESTO in Germany, among others. In 2010 they performed in the Benelux Congress in Antwerpen (Belgium), the Franco-German Congress in Kaiserslautern, and at ARKONES in Poland. In 2011 they went on a tour through France (among others the IREM French Congress in Sète) and Germany, organized by EUROKKA (Esperanto Rock Association), followed by a tour through the USA. In June 2013 the group made a new U.S. tour, in August they played at the Italian Esperanto Congress, and at FESTO in Belgium. In early 2014 Kapriol’! again played in Poland, and in August in France on the 12th of August in the World SAT Congress in Dinan.
In August 2015, Kapriol'! played for the grand ball of the 100th World Esperanto Congress in Lille (France).
