Release of the digital Single RAPIDU, VAGONARO on 19 july 2024
The song “Rapidu, vagonaro” (Hurry up, Train) was written in 1984 during a tourism trip through Hungary. It features a lumberjack who is on his way home to his girlfriend, and begs the train to go faster because he misses her so much.
But then he surprisingly falls in love with another girl on the train, and wishes the train would slow down. This funny love story was completely made up, but some experiences from our trip through the communist country at the time – like the Red Army soldier, the slambuc-stew, and the fat lady – found their way into the lyrics.
The Mondanoj often played “Rapidu, vagonaro” in their concerts. After our revival we recorded it professionally for the first time, with almost the original lyrics and arrangement.
The song is built on a soulful bass riff and jazzy chords. We also quote “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones in it.
